A band played as people from around the valley gathered along the east shore of the Flathead River in anticipation of the annual Polson 4th of July Fireworks display.

The crowd patiently waited for the main event while individuals set off beautiful displays of their own fireworks on the west shore of the lake and around Polson as the evening sky lost the color of the sunset and grew darker.

A sliver of moon amid a cloudless night sky formed the backdrop for the flashes of dazzling color. Boaters watched the display from the water while those on shore enjoyed not only the brilliant explosions in the sky, but also the reflection of the colors on the mildly choppy water.

Oohs and ahhs filled the air as kids and adults alike enjoyed the colorful display celebrating our nation’s Independence Day.
