RONAN RESERVE OFFICER Robert Stentz was recognized for his commitment to the community and volunteering countless hours to the department.
Officers of the Ronan Police Department were recognized Thursday, May 23 at the 1st Annual Awards Ceremony at a luncheon held at the Ronan Fire Department. The awards ceremony drew 20 people and commemorated National Police Week May 12-18.
The awards ceremony had opening remarks from Ronan Police Chief Ken Weaver. The invocation was conducted by Pastor Schneider, and a buffet luncheon from Little Montana was served. After lunch there were the officer presentations and closing remarks from Weaver.
The department recognized Reserve Officer Robert Stentz for his commitment to the community and volunteering countless hours to the department.
Canine Officer Brandon Smith was awarded the Medal of Merit for his work in the community with his K9 partner Sandor in seizing methamphetamine, heroin, marijuana and the apprehension of suspects.
Officer Joel Diaz was also awarded the Medal of Merit for his work in investigations and technical expertise with the fleet and the county’s new Computer Aided Dispatch and Records Management System.
Officer Corey White was nominated by his peers and was awarded Officer of the Year for his contributions of building trust in the community. His efforts to build relationships in the community as well as the investigation of a shooting involving two suspects who have since pled guilty to the shooting.
Ronan Mayor Kim Aipperspach, who was in attendance, thanked the officers for their service.
It was also Red Nose Day and the officers had some fun putting on their red noses for the children who are living in poverty.
