'Skeeter' the Clown visits Ronan Library

Want an excuse to sit quietly and read this summer? The Ronan Public Library and the D’arcy McNickle Library at SKC have your back.
Readers of all ages, and non-readers who like to listen to stories, can join in the Family Summer Reading Program, in progress now through Aug. 14.
Stop by the library on Main Street and sign up any time or do it online at ronanlibrary.org. They will give you a “Reading Log” for your age group.
And then — kick back in your favorite hammock or summer hideout and just enjoy reading. Or, if you are a pre-reader, or like to listen, then listen. For each two hours (age 0-5), four hours (6-12), or five hours (13 & Up – and yes, that includes adults), bring in your logs for prizes, and you also receive an entry for the Grand Prize drawing. Kids in grades 3-12 can also try their hand in a writing contest, with monetary prizes to be awarded.
Ronan Library held a kick-off event Friday, June 14. Young ones visited with “Skeeter” the Clown, who brought news of the Culpepper & Merriweather Circus coming this Saturday, June 22, and helped them make balloon animals. Older kids helped with reading program signups and planting free plants to give away for Fathers Day.
Throughout the summer, except the week of Independence Day, both libraries offer programs for kids based on the reading program theme of “A Universe of Stories.” The programs focused for elementary aged children are on Tuesdays, 10 a.m. at D’arcy McNickle, and 1 p.m. at Ronan. Ronan also has a program for toddlers and preschoolers Thursdays at 11 a.m.
Grand prize drawings are Aug. 16 at a picnic at Bockman Park in Ronan, beginning at noon.
