Grace Schumacher
Grace Beverly Schumacher, 100, of Polson passed away Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019, in her home — surrounded by her family.
Grace was born Oct. 20, 1918, and educated in Conrad, Mont. She moved to Polson after her marriage on April 4, 1936, to Edmund Schumacher in Shelby, Mont.
She loved her friends and was a very active bowler for over 50 years, volunteer for Polson Fishes and Loaves and Lady Elks, and was always helping her friends.
Grace was employed by Lake County for over 33 years and was Chief Deputy Treasurer for her last 11 years of employment. In the sixties, Grace and Eddy owned a little restaurant called the “Stop and Snack,” located at the end of Main Street in Polson.
Eddie played in dance bands and Grace loved to dance, so she would be out on the dance floor swinging away. Grace made new friends wherever she went, at bowling tournaments, conventions and on her many fun vacation trips.
In her later years, Grace and Eddy would go three times a week to rehab at the hospital in Polson. This was her social life, and she enjoyed visiting with all her friends. She also loved her rehab family who were employees that worked in the rehab department, and they loved her. She attended rehab after she turned 100 years old, until winter storms slowed her down.
Grace is survived by her daughters, Denise White of Polson; Donna Davis and her husband Dean Peterson of Whitefish; grandchildren, Cecil Fowler, Michael Anderson and Clark Davis; great-grandchildren, Cody Fowler, Isabelle Anderson, Tyler Anderson, Ruby Davis and Eddie Davis; and many nieces and nephews.
Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund Schumacher; sisters, Doris Heavirland and Elsa Hecht; brother, Bud Hoosier; and grandchildren, Beverly Gregory and Donald White. There will be a celebration of her life this summer in June or July.
