Looking back upon a whirlwind season

Wtr2018-19 Arlee Warriors (24-3) 1971pts

District crown, Dist14C: 1st, Western C: 2nd, State C: 2nd

The Warriors made their fourth foray into the State C championship this season, an unprecedented streak among the Class C ranks. A half dozen of the seniors were affiliated with all four of those title tilts in one capacity or another, Greg Whitesell seeing court time in all four contests. The group as a whole accrued a cumulative 99-6 record during the course of their prep careers, topping the century mark if one counts either the forfeit win over St. Regis or the exhibition fill in victory over the Hellgate JV.

The Vikings won more games this year than they have in at least a half dozen seasons, half of their losses attributed to State C runnerup Arlee. The senior laden squad leaves behind an admirable legacy that should inspire their returning teammates to emulate.

The Mission Bulldogs peaked just before the postseason when you want to be playing your best basketball. Bulldogs scorers include one triple century contributor, a trio of double century (200) point producers and one century clubber.

The season featured a quartet of century club rebounders with Christy and Hugs knocking at the door. Wacey McClure was only a handful shy of cresting the century (100) mark for dishing out assists with Flint McPherson not far behind. McClure led the team with six dozen steals on the season.

The Mission Bulldogs bid farewell to its half dozen seniors Lucas Vanderburg, Jacob Hugs, Jordan Matt, Flint McPherson, Wacey McClure and Matt Anderson, who collectively contributed more than 1100 points, 580 rebounds, 270 assists and 200 steals over the course of this season that was one to remember.

The Pirates were a bit of an anomaly this season. When they were on, the looked like they could contend with any upper tier team. But when they were off, it was apparent that a lot of work had yet to be done. The team graduates some solid seniors, but have a strong contingent of young players returning that suggest the future could be brighter on the horizon.

The Chiefs of Ronan were a better team than reflected by their record. Among their last quartet of games, they extended the last pair of their regular schedule slate into overtime and their elimination from the conference tournament were by scores of less than ten.

The Chiefs had a quartet of century club (>100) scorers in Anthony Camel, Jacob Gatch, Dallas Durheim and Bubba Bush, with Randy Finley knocking on the door. The team also had a trio of century club rebounders in Durheim, Camel and Finley, with Gatch knocking on the door.

The team graduates seven seasoned seniors in Aidan Birdinground, Bubba Bush, Anthony Camel, Dallas Durheim, Randy Finley, Terrell Stump and Levi Trahan.

The Two Eagle River Eagles won one game when they topped the half century mark. Had they scored similarly, five other games would have gravitated into the win column. Three of their loses were within ten or less.

The Eagles had a pair who crested the century (100) point plateau for season scoring in Travis Pierre and Dom Finley, with Anthony Charlo and Kesean Burke knocking on the door.
