Wtr2018-19 Charlo Lady Vikings

(11-1, 23-3) 1260pts

District runnerup, Dist14C: 1st 3-0, Western C: 1st 3-0, State C: dnp 0-2

The Lady Vikings put on quite a show this season that included their first trip to State in over a decade. They could be nicknamed the ‘cardiac kids’ for the heart palpitations they caused their fan base when they played Arlee their last three encounters, all of them down-to-the-wire, hang-in-the-balance affairs. The most impressive was the erasing of a multiple possession deficit during the waning minutes of the WesternC championship during which they dialed the operator long distance and completed the call from beyond the arc for successive triples that tied the contest to force overtime. Returnees got a taste of why fans grow to love basketball and have been handed a template on how to go about playing the game to win.

NOTE: +/- variations tend to arise when multiple sources are consulted that use slightly differing assessment matrices. For example, does a tip rebound get credited to the tipper or the recipient? Same with steals. The higher figure can be justifieably preferred in most cases.

Wtr2018-19 Arlee Scarlets

(11-1, 16-10) 1533pts

District crown, Dist14C: 2nd 1-1, WesternC: 2nd 2-1, StateC: dnp 0-2

The seasoned senior Scarlets have left behind a body of basketball work to be proud of. Not many senior prep players get a chance to showcase their talents on a State tournament stage three out of their four seasons. A cursory glance at this year’s record doesn’t convey an accurate picture of how tough a team they were to beat. Their losses merit being viewed within context: eventual State C champions, ranked StateC consolation winner, a quartet of Class B contenders, thrice to eventual WesternC divisional champions, all of them within a handful of possessions of tilting the outcome in their favor. When they look back, they should remember that it was a fun ride for the most part.

2018-19 AS season stat pack:

Alyssia Vanderburg (548p), Louetta Conko-Camel (300p), Nellie Desjarlais (232p), Noelle West (135p), Emily Fiddler (115p), Sydni Rogers (66p), Halle Adams (48p), Tomi Brazill (23p), Shelby Smith (19p), Cheyenne Pablo (18p), Hailey Shepherd (15p)

Career – A.Vanderburg (v4yr2019-15: 1870p), L.Conko-Camel (v4yr2019-15: 614p,) N.Desjarlais (v4yr2-19-15: 589p), N.West (v3yr+2019-16: 354p), S.Rogers (v3yr+2019-16: 139p), H.Shepherd (v3yr2019-16 reserve: 32p)

2018-19 Ronan Maidens (5-5, 11-14) 1040pts

The Maidens showcased exceptional improvement this past season and came within minutes of punching their ticket to State. Unfortunately, one of the players on the team of their opponent was a four-time all-state golfer who found her putting stroke from beyond the arc and almost singlehandedly erased their carefully crafted high teen lead they had built up to that point. A large swath of their roster returns with some young up-and-comer sharpshooters among them. The Maidens may have to be considered part of the postseason conversation if they can harness their potential into a formidable team to be reckoned with.

Wtr2018-19 Mission Lady Bulldogs (1-7, 9-12) 1065pts

The Lady Bulldogs have been a work in progress, but this season they may have turned a corner if their cross-classification county clashes with Arlee were any indication. Both games went down-to-the-wire with their outcome hinging on a mere handful of which way a few possessions would tilt. It these Mission girls can learn to play like they did in those games on a regular basis, the next tier in postseason play may lie within their grasp.

2018-19 MLB season stat pack:

Addison Arlint (219p), Azia Umphrey (201p), Sydney Brander (159p), Karolyna Buck (144p), Madyson Currie (106p), Afton Brander (88p), Courtney Mitchell (55p), Olivia Garland (19p), Hunter Eichert (7p)

Wtr2018-19 Polson Lady Pirates (0-10, 0-20) 472pts

Amng the goals of the Lady Pirates was to improve as the season progressed. That became evident when they closed out the season by climbing off the calendar four out of their five final games. The season may not be one to dwell on for too long, but the silver lining is the only direction from here is to go up.

Wtr2018-19 Two Eagle River Lady Eagles (0-12, 0-20) 264pts

The Lady Eagles had a rough go of their season, but to their credit, they competed in every game they took the court. When evaluators tend to comment that a team is young, they usually don’t mean that at least a trio of middle schoolers comprise a high school varsity roster. Bright spots for the team include having a player who crested the century (100) point plateau for season scoring, while some others scored more during the course of the season than contemporaries on other squads they faced. From here on out, the only way to gravitate is upward.

2018-19 TERLE season stat pack:
