Eugene Ashby

| March 28, 2019 10:34 AM

Eugene Turner Ashby, 80, passed March 17, 2019, peacefully in his sleep in the town he made his home, Polson, Mont. He was born June 3, 1938, in Bluemont, Va., to Eugene K. Ashby and Hazel Sisk Williams.

Gene Ashby, professional teller of tall tales, self-proclaimed master fisherman, beer loving cowboy and Louis L’Amour’s biggest fan, road off into the sunset on Saint Patty’s Day last.

He was survived by brothers, Jerry and William; and sister, Joan; 22 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five children, Missy, Amber (Michael), Gene, Leah (Shawn), Micah and two special step-daughters, Lorrie (Adam) and Donell.

Gene moved his family from New York to Montana in 1973 and made Polson their home. He loved this wild country and should’ve been born a century earlier. He took great delight in hunting, fishing and regaling others with tales of his youth.

His heart was huge and his smile bright. He will be missed by many as he rides off into the light.

There will be no services as he wanted only his close family to have a small gathering and feed the fishes that fed him and his family his whole life. Memories and condolences may be sent to the family at www.thelakefuneralhomeandcrematory.com.

Arrangements are under the direction of The Lake Funeral Home and Crematory.
