Polson resident Kellen Norman has qualified to compete at the Junior Olympic National Championships in Madison, Wisconsin,

Each boxer must be a state champion and then also win the regional championships to qualify. Montana’s region includes North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming.

Norman has been training with the Polson Boxing Club for the last four years and has been competing for the last three with his coach Matt Lee.

“We always look for the toughest boxers we can find Kellen (following the age and weight restrictions for safety),” Lee said. The tougher the competition we face, the better we get. No one works harder in the gym than Kellen. He has a work ethic second to none. It is common for Kellen to beat competitors who have the experience, speed, and superior skill. He overcomes these obstacles by setting an unrelenting pace that no one can match.”

A fundraiser has started to cover the expenses of sending Norman to Madison. A 1969 Honda Trail 90 was donated to be raffled off by the Polson Boxing Club to cover the cost of this adventure.

The National Junior Olympics Boxing is a National showcase in Madison, Wisconsin.

Tickets are available at the Polson VFW, $2 each or three for $5 each for the opportunity to win a motocycle.
