Flathead Lake Rock Skipping Championship June 1
Polson’s 5th Annual Flathead Lake Rock Skipping Championship is set for Saturday, June 1.
Registration for the 2019 edition of the event will begin at The Cove Deli in Polson at 9 a.m. After a short rules briefing, a bagpipe escort will kick off the event as participants and spectators walk down the hill to Riverside Park.
Registration fees are $15 for adults (13 and up), $10 for children (12 and under) or $45 for families of three or more. The categories are Mens’ 13 and over, Women 13 and over, Boys 12 and Under and Girls 12 and Under.
This is a BYOR event, which of course means “Bring Your Own Rocks.”
The FLRSC is an all ages family friendly competition that encourages chuckers, gerplunkers, tossers, flingers, wingers, and slingers to come test their rock skipping skills on the shores of Flathead Lake. Conceived to create greater awareness for the Mission Valley Ice Arena, this annual competition has become the flagship event that really gets summer skipping!
There are many styles that have developed over the years, from heavy-handed power skippers whose energetic hurling sends their stones catapulting over the water in enormous bounds, to precision pitchers who deftly deliver their stones within the easy view of the judges’ watchful eyes.
All proceeds will benefit the Mission Valley Ice Arena Association, helping to bring a rink to the Mission Valley and develop youth and adult skating, curling and hockey programs. For more in formation about the MVIAA visit MissionValleyIceArena.com.
