Fryberger emerges as big star in Divisional showcase

The Charlo High School girls track team is going for it all, and they have a legitimate shot at contending for a Montana High School Class C state championship trophy with the high-caliber level of competitors they have.
The Lady Vikings dominated at the MHSA Class C Divisional track meet Thursday and Friday at MCPS Stadium in Missoula and a key contributor to Charlo’s success was Carlee Fryberger.
Fryberger, who is coming off a sensational freshman campaign, is following the season up with a dominant sophomore one.
Fryberger captured first place in the 100-meter with a time of 13.15 seconds, and her teammate Tyrah Hammond, who is equally as talented, placed seventh with a time of 13.72.
Fryberger continued piling up accolades throughout the MHSA Class C Divisional Meet.
Fryberger recorded a first-place time of 26.90 in the 200.
Fryberger also finished first in the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.04. Teammates Allie Delaney and Kaitlin Cox also had top-10 finishes in both events.
Fryberger’s teammates Delaney finished fourth with a time of 17.16, and Cox finished sixth with a time of 17.38.
Fryberger didn’t stop with the accolades all day as she is solidifying herself as one of the top-tier relay runners in the state.
The Lady Vikings’ 4X100 and 4X400 relay teams both placed second.
Fryberger, along with teammates Cox, Tyrah Hammond and Delaney finished second in the 4x100 with a time of 50.97.
Fryberger was also a member of the 4X400 relay squad with Kassidi Cox, Hammond and Delaney that placed second with a time of 4:22.97.
Hammond, Delaney excel in 400
Tyrah Hammond and Allie Delaney have continued to have success as key members of the Lady Vikings’ track team.
The two seniors placed in the top-10 in the 400 with Hammond, who placed fourth with a time of 1:02.82, and Delaney recorded a time of 1:04.34.
Love, Contreras excel in distance
Charlo distance runner Aryal Love may only be a sophomore, and Guinevere Contreras maybe a ninth-grader, but the two young competitors have already joined the ranks on the leader boards.
Love, who set a personal record of 13:35.28 en route to a sixth-place finish in the 3,200, was joined by Guinevere Contreras, who finished ninth with a time of 14:08.05.
Delaney excels in 300 hurdles
Allie Delaney, now a senior, has continued to excel in various track events this year, and the senior shined in recording a time of 49.71 to finish third.
Lady Vikes dominate pole vault
Charlo’s Tyrah Hammond and Destiny Manuel both finished in the top five in the pole vault.
Hammond cleared a distance of 8-00, and Manuel also made it at 8-00, to finish third and fourth, respectively.
Kaitlin Cox finished fifth with a height of 7-06,Pand Katelyn Young set a personal record with an eighth-place height of 7-00.
Lammerding excels in throwing events
Arlee High School thrower Peyton Lammerding captured first place in the shot put, and fifth in the discus at the MHSA Western C Divisionals.
Lammerding, now a junior, recorded a throw in shot of 36-02 inches, and placed fifth in discus with a throw of 100-04.
Cox captures excel in the long, triple jump
Charlo senior Kaitlin Cox is known for being one of the best volleyball players at the MHSA Class C level.
Cox has compensated for her lack of size at the volleyball net with a levitating leap that has also served her well in jumping events.
Cox finished first in both the long jump and triple jump, recording a distance of 16-01.75 in the long jump.
Cox also finished second in the triple jump with a distance of 34-09.50.
The Charlo Lady Vikings, and Arlee Warriors, and Scarlets will get an opportunity to compete for more accolades at the Montana High School Association Class C state meet May 24-25 at the Laurel Sports Complex at Laurel High School.
Both Arlee, and Charlo have an excellent opportunity to come away with MHSA Class C state hardware, as they boast of some of the top-tier competitors in the Western, and Eastern portion of the state of Montana, in the state’s bigges track showcase of the year, where there will be collegiate scouts watching the state’s top talent.
