VALLEY VIEW students used recycled cartons to help grow their garden. Vegetables harvested were taken home to students’ families.

Valley View Elementary was the benefactor of funding via grants and awards the last several months of the 2018-19 school year.

Valley View received a $414 Montana Masons Foundation grant to buy a new microscope that can be interfaced with a computer. Carol Madden, the school’s math, science and technology teacher, wrote the grant and the local Mission Valley Masonic Lodge 78 presented the check to the school.

Notification came recently that Valley View was the winner of the CenturyLink 2018-19 Teachers and Technology Grant Program, which recognizes innovative science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) projects in the classroom. The grant was valued at $4,622.

“We are so excited to receive this generous grant from CenturyLink to purchase a new SMART board, document camera and wireless hand-held microscope,” Madden said.

In addition, Valley View received a $1,000 prize in the Carton2Garden contest.

Amy Westphal, kindergarten and first-grade teacher, received a $500 award from Town Pump. The money will be used to add books to the library.
