Polson native Frissell running well for Griz

Bea Frissell has already carving herself a niche among collegiate cross-country.

The recently graduated Polson native captured first place in her first meet as a newly minted Lady Griz at the Clash of the Inland Northwest meet in Cheney. Frissell finished with a time of 14:13.7 as she paced her University of Montana Lady Griz cross-country team to a second place finish. Her efforts earned her Big Sky Athlete of the Week honors.

At the Montana State XC Classic held at the Bridger Creek Golf Course in Bozeman, Frissell’s second place 17:23 time over the three mile course helped propel her team to a second place team finish, edging the rival MSU Lady Bobcats by five points.

Women’s Soccer

Junior midfielder Tiara Duford scored the first goal of the 2019 Rocky Mountain College season just over a minute and a half into their contest in their 6-3 win over California-based Hope International. Duford also contributed an assist on the last goal of Rocky’s 4-0 win over the University of Providence.

A Hoot and Howl from the Howell

University of Providence Lady Argo forward/defender Ashlee Howell (Polson, class of 2019) dished a pair of assists in UP’s 10-0 win over Arizona-based Park University-Gilbert. In a subsequent contest, Howell and Duford bumped into one another at the conference clash between both their schools.

Bumped is also being employed as a euphemistic double entendre reference to hip-checking each other on the pitch as one defends against the other in their “game on” approach that includes a bit of “let’s see what’ you’ve got” friendly rivalry.

Football

Redshirt sophomore tight end Matt Rensvold of Polson caught a 9-yard TD pass in the fourth quarter of the gridiron Griz 61-17 win over North Alabama. Rensvold caught a one yarder during their loss to PAC-12 Oregon, but reaggrivated a previous injury that will sideline him the remainder of the season.

Thrice decorated All-Big Sky (hm) receiver Jerry Louie-McGee became the all-time receptions leader for the Griz in their 35-3 loss to Pac-12 Oregon. His career tally after the Monmouth contest extend his career receptions past the double century (200) mark while cresting the double millennial (2000) threshold for career yardage. Louie-McGee’s brother Kenny is part of the roster of the Salish Kootenai College Bison mens basketball team and both parents work in the Mission Valley.
