Mission Bulldogs hammer Ennis, 51-8

At St. Ignatius, Mission held the reins in check on the visiting Mustangs while the hosts found the end zone eight times with a half dozen different players.

Two of their tallies came off optimal defensive plays when Troy Matt blocked a punt and Canyon Sargent recovered a fumble.

The game was the first career start for quarterback Kellen McClure.

Head coach Tyler Murray commented, “Ennis was the most complete game that we have played so far this season. ... our defense and special teams have been doing a phenomenal job this season. Isaac [Dumontier], Troy [Matt] and Layne [Spidel] ran the ball nicely behind our O-Line that handled Ennis’ physicality pretty well.”

Next up, Mission travels to Arlee this Friday, Oct. 1, for a Western C 8-man football rendition of a cross-county Rez rivalry wrangle.

Coach Murray has no illusions about how formidable an opponent Arlee can be because they’re “a team we haven’t beaten since I have been here. It’s a rivalry, it’s a homecoming game, anything can happen. So we need to take care of business.”

At Polson, fifth-ranked Frenchtown Bronc gridiron horsepower was raring to go as they galloped past the host Pirates in convincing fashion.

Carryover frustration from a narrow loss to the top tier ranked Bitterroot Broncs of Hamilton the week prior may have played a motivating role behind the efficiency of the top five ranked Broncs attack. Frenchtown’s main weapon, track divisional sprints (100,200) champion Jace Klucewich tallied thrice, rushing twice and hauling in another via reception by air.

Pirate defensive highlights included a quartet of fumble recoveries, two each half, and a blocked field goal attempt at the end of the second quarter by Trent Dwelle.

Unfortunately, the Pirates were unable to capitalize upon their manufactured opportunities by the defense.

Coach Kaden Glinsmann commented, “Our young men fought hard for one another and showed great effort. The game came down to making plays and early on we let those opportunities slip away.”

The Pirates travel to the Bitterroot to fact SWA Stevensville this Friday.

At Alberton, the visiting Vikings found the Western C second-ranked Mountain Cats had plenty of pounce as the host team clawed their way onto the scoreboard multiple times before Charlo could craft a counter.

Wrangler Gaustad would find Roper Edwards for a short yarder in the end zone, followed by a quarterback keeper conversion to carve into the deficit.

But two more tallies by Clark Fork created a Cat-astrophic chasm that would prove difficult to bridge, although Isaiah Allik would reel in a nineteen yarder as Charlo matched Clark Fork during the third frame.

Charlo will travel to top ten ranked Thompson Falls this Friday where they will face the host Bluehawks during their homecoming.

At Philipsburg, the visiting Warrior gridders managed to notch the scoreboard first against one of the top tier teams among Western C 8-man football when Cody Tanner found Noah Coulson for a 21-yard strike.

But thereafter, the host Titans reeled off a string of seven tallies of almost mythological proportion that would shape the outcome.

The Warriors managed to generate a second score during second half action when Colt Crawford rumbled into the end zone from short yardage.

Head coach Chuck Forgey said, “We’re preparing for homecoming and gearing up to put forward a competitive game.”

The Warriors will host the visiting Mission Bulldogs Friday with traditional Homecoming coronation at halftime.
