At the State A golf tournament held in Laurel, the Mission Valley minted a trio of area golfers with all-state recognition.

Among the boys, Polson’s Trey Kelley placed 10th with a 165. On the girls side of the slate, Lady Pirate Cali Cannon finished fifth, while teammate Ellie Thiel tied eighth. Cannon carded a 189 after two consistent rounds among the 90s, while Thiel carded a 197. Both girls shaved seven strokes off of their first round score during second day action.

This was the second all-state acknowledgement for Cannon, who tied 11th last season with a 186.

Macao Jackson was the lead golfer among Ronan girls, while Ruben Couture was the lone representative for the boys.

“I’m extremely proud of our three all-state golfers as they had the dedication to be successful while at the same time setting a great example for future Pirate golfers,” Polson coach Cameron Milton said.

Ronan golf head coach Frank Ciez enjoyed the improvement of his players, “The girls steadily improved over the course of the season.”

The tournament featured a bit of drama between Cameron Kahle of Whitefish and Carson Hackmann of Laurel when the pair tied on the last hole. Hackman was three strokes up on Kahle with two holes remaining and parred the last two holes.

Kahle birdied and eagled the 17th and 18th to pull even. A sudden death playoff stretched three holes before Kahle prevailed.

Both parred the first two holes. Kahle bogied the third, but a double bogie by Hackmann left him a stroke shy of Laurel pulling off the rarity of twin medalist titles in conjunction with the tandem of team titles.

Eastern A Divisional girls champion Kyra Brockhausen of Billings Central placed fourth, while Eastern A Divisional boys champion

Nick Pasquarello of Laurel was nipping at the heels of the leaders in third place. Western A Divisional girls champion Ella Shaw of Whitefish carded a 201 that was amere stroke shy of all-state recognition.
