Mission Bulldogs claim Crown of the Valley, spoil Arlee homecoming

At Arlee during Homecoming, the visiting Mission Bulldogs flipped the script on the outcome from the preceding pair of seasons against the Warriors with a strong first half performance.

A pair of TD runs by Isaac Dumontier and Troy Matt in the first frame were supplemented by another pair of Jedi Christy tallies in the second quarter to stake the visitors to a multiple possession cushion.

The host Warriors would counter to start the second half when Colt Crawford crossed the plane of the end zone from inside the 30-yard line. Arlee would match Mission stride for stride during the third quarter with another Crawford rumble from inside the redzone.

Arlee had some other opportunities when they plucked an interception in the second quarter and Crawford intercepted during the final frame. But the Warriors were unable to capitalize upon the takeaways to further dent the deficit.

Mission also had a pair of pass touchdowns negated on account of holding infractions.

The Warriors travel to face the Victor Pirates in Victor Friday.

Mission head coach Tyler Murray stated, “one of our goals for the season ... [was to] take the crown of the Valley [by] beating Charlo and Arlee. ... We have the chance to earn a playoff spot this week against Flint Creek and accomplish another goal. It will be a great opportunity for our 13 seniors on senior night to earn a chance to play on their home field again if we can win out.”
