Ronan Maidens sweep Libby

This past week, the Ronan Maidens swept their competition to post two wins in conference action.

Last Tuesday for Senior Night, the Maidens went the distance against the visiting Lady Loggers from Libby. Execution of basic fundamentals wasn’t the prettiest of pictures at times, but the Maidens focused when they needed to and took care of business.

After dropping the first set, the Maidens were teetering on the ledge of trailing 0-2 when Libby rallied to tie the set at two dozen apiece. But the Maidens were able to wriggle off the hook by taking the next two points to square the sets at one apiece.

The Maidens would capture the third set, forcing the Lady Loggers to rally as the visitors knotted the match at two sets apiece by taking the fourth set.

The Maidens jumped out to a 5-1 lead at the start of the fifth and final set, extending the margin to 8-1 on a Leina Ulutoa service ace that forced a Libby timeout. The Lady Loggers closed the gap, pulling within one, 14-13, but a Madeline McCrea kill delivered the final set and the match into the Maiden win column.

The senior quartet of Brooklyn Kenelty, Haylee Walchuk along with Clairmont twins Regan and Madison collaborated on ten kills, two set assists, two and a half blocks as well as three dozen defensive digs.

The Ronan volleyballers then traveled to Browning, where they swept the Lady Indians in three sets, although the finale hung in the balance until the end.

The Maidens will have already faced the Lady Loggers in Libby on Tuesday, the outcome determining the venue where the two teams will play one another in a play-in match, the winner advancing to the Divisional tournament. The Maidens are then slated to close out the regular schedule on Tuesday, October 29, at Frenchtown.
