Charlo hosts successful homecoming event in loss to Flint Creek

The Charlo High School football team’s 46-20 homecoming loss Friday night at the hands of the back-to-back Montana High School Class C, 8-man champion Flint Creek didn’t put a damper on the school’s homecoming festivities.
The Vikings, who are working without their long-standing coaches Mike Krahn and Jim Petersen, are still transitioning under new coach and current head boys basketball coach Reese Cox, fell to a team that up until their season-opening loss to Clark Fork, held a 26-game winning streak as the longest in MHSA Class C, 8-man football in recent memory.
In spite of Friday night’s loss to Flint Creek, a team that many experts have picked to be in contention to capture their third consecutive Montana High School Association Class C, 8-man state championship title, Charlo was in for a treat with their homecoming parade.
The very casual atmosphere which had all of the homecoming royalty parade in tracks in what will soon be the Charlo High School track around the stadium, brought the homecoming royalty in and positioned them near the center of the field, where each of their activities and parents were proudly announced on the microphone.
The homecoming royalty, which included—Carlee Fryberger and Nathan Clark (juniors), Mila Hawk and Stephen Loli (Freshmen), Kayla Tomlin and Anthony Castro (sophomores) and Carlee Fryberger and Nathan Clark (juniors), all competed to be crowned the king and queen of Charlo High School.
Vikings’ seniors Kira McPhail and Bridger Foust were eventually crowned the king and queen, and were greeted by former Charlo High School Vikings’ quarterback Landers Smith, who is entering his first year as a member of the Montana Tech football team.
Smith is regarded as one of the most successful players in Montana High School Association Class C, 8-man football to strap on a helmet since former St. Louis and Seattle Seahawks special teamer Chase Reynolds strapped on a football helmet for Drummond.
The future Charlo classes were even involved as they held up signs boasting of the Class of 2024 during Friday night’s festivities.
The Vikings will find themselves in a critical contest against their Mission Valley High School rivalry at 7 p.m. Friday at Mission High School.
The Charlo High School football team is looking to qualify for another trip to the MHSA, Class C, 8-man football playoffs.
If they qualify, it will be the third time in four years, they’ve qualified for the MHSA Class C, 8-man playoffs.
