The Lake County commissioners voted unanimously last week to direct Election Administrator Katie Harding to prepare to conduct the Nov. 3 general election by mail ballot.

The commissioners were scheduled vote to adopt a resolution to conduct the November general election by mail, at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, in the Commissioners Chambers at the Lake County Courthouse.

Early voting begins on Oct. 2, and can be done in person at the elections office located at the Lake County Courthouse, Room 121, 106 Fourth Ave. E. in Polson.

Ballots will be mailed to all active voters on Oct. 9, and will have prepaid postage, or voters may return their ballots to the Election Office.

The decision came after a lengthy discussion about the numerous obstacles due to COVID-19 which would make it difficult to abide by social distancing and sanitation guidelines, that potentially might compromise the safety of voters and workers, according to a press release from the commissioners.

The commissioners will vote to adopt a resolution to conduct the November general election by mail, on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the commissioners chambers at the Lake County Courthouse.
