| August 27, 2020 1:00 AM

The Polson Pirate varsity golf teams hosted their first meet of the season last Thursday at Polson Bay Golf Course.

Fifteen boys and 14 girls competed, representing Polson High School, Corvallis High School and Whitefish High School.

According to course PGA Head Golf Pro Cameron Milton, on the individual girls side Macee Greenwood of Corvallis continued her domination of Western Montana high school golf with a 78 to win by 12 strokes.

Second and third place came from the home team Pirates with senior Ellie Thiel (90) and freshman Ashley Maki (94).

The Corvallis girls won the team side by only two shots over the home team Pirates firing a 403.

For the individual boys, the Whitefish Bulldogs have a newcomer out of Texas, Billy Smith, who makes an already outstanding team better.

Smith fired a 2-under 70 to take medalist honors. Second and third place came out of Whitefish as well with Jonny Nix (72) and defending State A champion Cameron Kahle (77).

The Whitefish boys ran away with the team competition shooting a blistering 297 with all five boys breaking 80.

The Pirates were second with 356. Carson Hupka led Polson with an 81 while Hunter Emerson scored 86.

This past Monday at the Whitefish Invitational, the Whitefish Bulldog boys dominated their home course, but Polson Pirates Torrin Ellis, Hunter Emerson and Ronan Chief Colter Cornwell all forged 84s for a four-way tie with Cornwell netting fifth place in the scorecard playoff.

The Polson Lady Pirate girls took home the team title as well as individual medalist honors as Ellie Thiel shaved five strokes off her game from the previous competition to post an 85. Polson’s Ashley Maki took the silver with 93, while Carly Garrick shaved eight strokes off her previous outing to take the tenth spot.

Ronan Maiden Macao Jackson came in two strokes under the century mark to capture fourth. Fellow Maidens Madyson RunningCrane and Kylee Niemeyer both placed among the top ten in their season debut.
