Community notes: Coleman Stump march set for Thursday in Polson
A group called Justice for Coleman Stump has organized a “March for Justice, March for Peace” to take place at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 31 in Polson, from the Courthouse to Riverside Park.
Stump, a Box Elder resident and member of the Chippewa Cree, was shot and killed by Billings police on Oct. 12. He was shot multiple times in the back by officers who were responding to a call about suspicious activity.
The shooting has led to calls for change from tribal leaders and advocacy organizations including Indian People’s Action, and for a federal investigation into the department’s use of deadly force against people of color, according to a Dec. 23 Montana Free Press article.
