A Stevensville man is in custody in Ravalli County following the shooting death of a Lake County man early Christmas morning in Stevensville.

John Komotios, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene after law enforcement officers responded to a report of a shooting incident at an apartment on Fifth Street in Stevensville, according to a press release from Ravalli County Sheriff and Coroner Steve Holton.

Sheriff Holton said deputy sheriffs detained Trevor Matthew Looney, 33, who was transported to the Ravalli County Detention Center for the offenses of deliberate homicide and criminal possession of dangerous drugs.

An altercation between the two men about 10 minutes after midnight resulted in Komotios being struck by multiple gunshots fired from a handgun, according to Holton.

Holton said there were no other people in the apartment with the men, and no one else was injured during the incident. He added that investigators are confident that this was an isolated altercation between the two men and there is no further danger posed to the public.

The Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office asks that anyone with knowledge of Trevor Looney's behavior and travels prior to and leading up to Christmas contact Det. Sergeant Matt Cashell at the Ravalli County Sheriff's Office, 406-375-4060.
