Lady Bulldogs win rivalry game

At the Ronan Events Center in a classic cross classification Rez roundball rivalry wrangle, one would have been hard pressed to decipher which team entered the contest with only a lonesome win under their belts thus far this season based on the caliber of play on the hardcourt.

Much of the credit for the outcome goes to Mission poise despite the foreign environment and how they navigated sometimes stiffling defensive pressure. The Lady Bulldogs seemed to handle the Maiden vaunted press with relative ease at times, unloading the ball to their open player before getting hemmed in, then finishing with a tally at their end to maintain the margin.

Meanwhile, framed from a Maiden perspective at their own “R” House, shots that ordinarily would fall did not, even after multiple putback attempts. Unable to capitalize upon paint points, coupled with a dearth of their staple diet of transition tallies ordinarily manufactured off turnovers, the Maidens made little headway in carving into the deficit as the visitors outshot the hosts threefold while the Maiden offense sputtered with a season low field goal output.

Maiden Jaylea Lunceford turned in a double-double. Lady Bulldogs Azia Umphrey and Sydney Brander almost combined for two dozen, while Madyson Currie dished out a half dozen assists.

At Frenchtown, the Maidens rebounded from the night before by doubling their field goal output, carving out a teen lead by the half. Jaylea Lunceford turned in her second double-double of the weekend, while Regan Clairmont delved among double digits for the fifth time this season with a dozen points.

The Maidens hit the road this weekend with conference games at Browning and Libby.
