Mariners shine in doubleheaders
Last week the Mission Valley Mariners A squad improved to 9-9 on the season. After a slow start in early June, the Mariners have found their groove going 8-1 over the last two weeks of games.
On June 24 the Mariners played a double header in Missoula, and defeated the Mavs in both games. In the first game the boys had a strong 4th inning, scoring 6 runs to get them up early, eventually defeating the Mavs 12-5.
The second game of the night was a tight match up until the Mariners piled on five runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat the Mavs again, 8-3. Keyan Dalby and Xavier Fisher each had two runs in the game and Dalby hit three RBIs.
The following night, June 25, Mission Valley hosted the Libby Loggers for a couple of seven-inning games. The Mariners dropped the first one in a close battle, 11-9. However the Mariners bounced back and defeated the Loggers in the second contest 8-1. Xavier Fisher went 3-4 at bat with two RBIs, while Dawson Dumont went 2-3.
Fisher also pitched the entire game, throwing 59 strikes and 23 balls with a total pitch count of 82.
On Friday the Mariners A team hosts the Missoula Mavs again for another conference matchup.
