Another Polson tradition has been canceled in the face of COVID-19 spreading in the community.

With a unanimous vote, the board of directors of the Mission Valley Friends of the Arts reluctantly canceled the 45th Summer Theater season of the Port Polson Players.

The regional premiere of “The Pin-Up Girls,” a musical honoring those who served in the military from World War I through Afghanistan, was set to open July 16, following CDC guidelines for no more than 50 people at a time, masks, gloves, and cleaning protocols. However, with the number of cases quickly rising in Lake County, the board decided to move all of this summer’s planned productions to 2021, including Children’s Theater and two other shows, “Over the River and Through the Woods,” and “The Last Romance.”

“We are all on the same page about this,” said co-producer Karen Lewing. “Let’s just protect everybody so we can get together for theater when this is all over.

“The good news is - we know what we’re doing for the 2021 season.”
