Lady Vikings capture district crown

After a first-round bye in district play, the Charlo volleyball team seized the 14C championship with a five-set victory over Noxon on Thursday, Oct. 29.
The Lady Vikings captured the first two sets and were likely anticipating that the match would culminate in a sweep, much like the previous time both teams faced one another. But Noxon showed improvement and took the next two sets to even the match.
The final set was close. Attack at the net was comparable for both teams as each had two players who tallied among the teens for kills. Where Charlo held an edge was a threefold advantage at the service line, where Carlee Fryberger and MollyKate Sullivan collaborated on 11 aces.
Charlo faced off against Hot Springs in the district championship match. The Lady Vikings prevailed handily in the opening and third sets. But the middle set extended into extras. The Charlo attack held a nearly two-dozen advantage in spikes at the net, while MollyKate Sullivan offset the Lady Savage Heat with her quartet of service aces.
Both teams advance to the Western C Divisional. Charlo hosted 12C Shields Valley on Tuesday (check leaderadvertiser.com for results). A win advances them to face the upper-bracket winner between Manhattan Christian and Drummond.
