Grass fire west of Elmo scorches 470 acres

Fire crews are working to suppress a grass fire that began Wednesday evening 4 miles west of Elmo, according to a Thursday press release from the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes Division of Fire.

The fire was mostly contained by noon Thursday.

Officials say the fire in Deep Draw along Highway 28 covers 471 acres. No evacuation notices or road closures have been issued, and no structures are threatened.

The fire remains under investigation.
