Chiefs hit a wall at Dillon
The Ronan football team faced a tall order on the road Friday at Dillon against a team whose lone loss came at the hands of top-ranked and unbeaten Hamilton. MSU-bound quarterback Jace Fitzgerald guided the Dillon offense to a 53-0 victory.
The Chiefs were able to move the ball, generating nine first downs over the course of the contest. A trio of Ronan receivers each reeled in at least one double-digit gain pass reception, including Trapper McAllister with a 31-yarder. But sustaining drives on the Beaver half of the field proved elusive for the visitors.
The defense managed to hamper some of the Dillon rushing attack as Daniel Bishop and Max Morency each recovered fumbles. Bishop and Payton Cates were able to penetrate the backfield to sack the quarterback twice, while Dylan Kelch, Bishop and Cates each notched a tackle for loss.
The Chiefs (2-6) host Corvallis (1-6) Friday for their regular season finale.
Ronan quarterback Daniel Kelsch has now thrown for over 1,300 yards for the season. Trapper McAllister has more than 500 receiving yards.
