Five area 7B harriers reap postseason honors

At Kalispell, the all-classification state cross country championships were split between two days instead of the usual single-day event due to COVID precautions. Classes A and B ran their events Friday, while Classes AA and C wrapped the season up Saturday. The top 15 finishers earned all-state recognition.

Western B area runners pulled double duty in their season finale. Because of the cancellation of the Western B Divisional, state B times were utilized to determine all-conference finishers and stratification.

Among the state B segment, Mission runners Thomas Nuila and Andrew Rush received all-state honors with top-15 finishes as Nuila finished ninth and Rush 15th. Sophomore Zoran LaFrombois was the third Bulldog runner to cross the finish line with a top-30, sub-19 finish. Arlee’s Sage Nicolai and RJ Knoll both finished among the top 100 with sub-22s.

Among area girls, Mission’s Cedar Hunt placed 18th, a mere 17 seconds from squeezing into the top 15. Madyson Currie and Kooper Page both finished among the top 70, Page with a personal best. The Arlee girls were paced by Princess Bolen and Cheyenne Pablo, who both ran season bests to place among the top 100.

Once competitors from other divisions were filtered out from the finish list, Cedar Hunt emerged as the first westerner to cross the finish line, earning her Western B champion honors with her first-place finish. Madyson Currie wrapped up the final slot in 10th place for all-conference accolades. This is the second season in a row that a Mission runner has laid claim to the Western B champion crown, Karolyna Buck taking first place last season. Buck now runs for Montana Tech.

Among the Mission boys, all-staters Nuila and Rush both doubled their hardware haul with all-conference recognition as well, while Zoran LaFrombois received his second all-conference honor with a ninth-place finish among Western B extrapolated times.

The Mission boys repeated as Western B runner up in team standings, while the Mission girls tied for second initially, but took third after the application of tiebreaker criteria.

In state C action, Charlo’s Hayden Smith and Lady Vikings Aryal Love and Guinevere Contreras all finished among the top 60, running in sub-freezing snowy conditions.
