Mission Valley area volleyball got underway this past week as players put into practice the three S's associated with the sport: serve, set and spike.

At Arlee, the visiting Lady Savage Heat controlled the tempo of the first two sets of their season opener, but the host Scarlets stretched the third set deep into extras before Hot Springs was able to pull out the sweep. Senior Halle Adams led the team at the net with four spikes and a half dozen blocks. Jerny Crawford was the defensive dynamo with ten digs.

The Scarlets are slated to host a visit from the Mission Lady Bulldogs on Thursday, September 3.

The Charlo Lady Vikings picked up where they left off last season with a pair of nonconference road wins, first over the Seeley Swan Lady Blackhawks followed by a cross classification clash with Mission. Lady Vikings Carlee Fryberger and Kassidi Cox dipped into double digit territory for combined kills over the course of both games. Katelyn Young led the Lady Vikings on defense against Mission with 14 digs.

In the Mission contest, Lady Bulldog Sydney Brander led the host team with nine kills. The evening was Senior Night for Mission, during which seniors Brander, Keana Thomas, Addison Bird and Pam Frost were honored. After their contest with Arlee, the Lady Bulldogs are slated to travel to Ronan on Tuesday, September 8.

Western A teams Ronan and Polson inaugurate their seasons this week since the Tip-Off Tournament was cancelled due to CoV2 precautions. The Maidens will have already faced Libby on the road, then host Stevensville on Thursday, September 3, then Mission the following Tuesday.

The Lady Pirates will have already faced SWA Frenchtown on the road, then are slated to host a pair of conference clases against Libby on Saturday, September 5, followed by Whitefish on Tuesday, September 8.
