Ronan golf edges county rival Polson by single stroke
At the Ronan Invitational this past Thursday held at the Mission Mountain Golf Course, the host Maidens and Chiefs maximized their home course advantage by edging both their respective rival Polson squads by a single stroke. Scorecard playoffs determined the sequence for girls 6-7, 9-10 and boys 6-10.
On the girls side, the Maidens captured the team title while Polson Lady Pirate Ellie Thiel took home individual medalist honors with a low 80s finish. This was the second medalist showing by Thiel thus far this season.
Ronan's Macao Jackson led the Maidens with a 94, not only shaving four strokes off her previous outing, but also edging out the top Whitefish golfer in a scorecard playoff when both tied. Maiden Kylee Niemeyer captured the eighth spot, while Polson's Kylee Siefert edged out the top Hamilton contender during a scorecard playoff for ninth.
On the boys side of the spectrum, the Whitefish Bulldogs took home both team as well as individual medalist honors.
The host Chiefs finished third with a 353 by edging Polson by a single stroke. The Chiefs were paced by Colter Cornwell with a score in the mid-80s to finish seventh after his scorecard playoff against Whitefish golfer Gates Gilman. The home course suited the Ronan boys well as they shaved 23 strokes off their previous outing last week in Whitefish.
The Pirate boys were led by freshmen Torrin Ellis and Christian Lund with dual 87s as both closed out the final two slots among the top ten after a three-way scorecard playoff.
Both Ronan and Polson golf squads are slated to competed on two different courses in Frenchtown midweek.
