RONAN — Fire investigators believe an unattended campfire is to blame for a new wildfire 5 miles southeast of Ronan, according to a Wednesday press release from The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Division of Fire.

The Marsh Creek Fire is about one-fifth of an acre and is burning in dense timber and brush at an elevation of 5,500 feet.

There are five Missoula Smokejumpers assigned to the fire, which remains under investigation.
