Rotary Club of Polson gives a boost to schools, youth activities
The Rotary Club of Polson distributed more than $20,000 last week, one part acknowledgment of exceptional service under trying conditions and one part in support of youth activities and physical fitness.
On Sept. 15, Rotarians gave $50 to all 241 employees of the Polson School District, for a total of $12,500, in recognition of their service to the community during the COVID-19 pandemic that has forced new approaches and strained workloads.
“Everyone has performed over and above their normal duties to adapt,” Rotarian Bret Richardson said.
Also Tuesday, the Rotary club donated $8,000 to the Polson Boys and Girls Club, part of a sponsorship of new backboards for the gymnasium.
Richardson said local Rotarians usually raise about $25,000 each summer for youth projects through a chili cookoff event and raffle. The COVID-19 pandemic forced a cancellation of the event this year, so last week’s distributions came in part from reserve funds as well as new contributions from members of the Rotary.
