Volleyball Roundup: Maidens leash Bulldogs in key conference clash

At Whitefish, the visiting Maidens served notice that they intend to be force to be reckoned with when they dispatched the host Lady Bulldogs on their home court. Maiden middles Madeline McCrea and Olivia Clairmont collaborated on two dozen kills to offset Whitefish output at the net. The thrice all-conference accolade accentuated McCrea has a huge night all the way around, also serving up a pair of aces, snuffing five and a half blocks while also leading the Maidens on defense with thirteen digs.

Maiden junior middle Olivia Clairmont summarized her take on why the Maidens were able to successfully prevail on the road against a tough conference opponent: "We put up a wall that discouraged them from putting up big numbers."

Maiden volleyballers host Columbia Falls this Thursday for their Homecoming, then travel to Frenchtown on Tuesday, September 29.

Scarlets snakebit by Lady Copperheads

At Arlee, the host Scarlets were victimized by vipers in a three set sweep at the hands of the visiting Lady Copperheads of Anaconda. The visitors had dispatched Class A Butte Central 3-2 earlier on in their schedule and would remain undefeated after this encounter.

To the Scarlets credit, they were able to reach double digits in kills against a well rounded team, while Halle Adams and Lark Thomas each had a block at the net.

The Scarlets will have already faced the T-Falls Lady Bluehawks, then host the Plains Trotters on Thursday before heading over to St. Ignatius for a cross county clash with Mission on Saturday.

Vikings best Trojans in battle of unbeatens

At Drummond this past week, the Lady Vikings of Charlo faced their stiffest test of the season against the Lady Trojans of Drummond. The host team came out firing, rocking the visitors back on their heels as they captured the first two sets to put Charlo in the hole 0-2 with their backs against the wall without much wiggle room. The Lady Vikings would respond in true champion form by sweeping the next two sets to forge a fifth set finale to settle the contest. Charlo would have to stretch it into extras, but would prevail 16-14 to keep their record unblemished.

Three Lady Vikings combined for over 30 kills, but the team rocked the service line with 20 service aces to offset mid-teen numbers by Drummond, MollyKate Sullivan and Carlee Fryberger serving a half dozen sizzlers each. The two Fryberger sisters were defensive diggin dynamos as they collaborated on over 40 digs on defense.

Charlo will have already hosted Plains on Tuesday, then host Philipsburg on Saturday.
