Prep Roundup: Pirates tennis sweeps Stevensville
The Polson tennis teams earned a pair of home victories over Stevensville on Thursday.
The girls team had a near-perfect day with seven straight-set wins, four in singles and three in doubles.
The boys got singles victories from Michael Smith, Owen McElwee and Tate Barentsten. They went 1-1 against the Yellowjackets in doubles play.

Softball: Maidens outgunned at Stevensville
The Ronan softball team scored six runs in the third inning to take the lead in their season opener at Stevensville on Saturday, but couldn’t hold the lead and eventually lost 9-7.
The Maidens scored again in the fourth, but gave up three runs in the fifth.
Maddy Mae Miller led the Maidens with two RBIs, while Lexi Wirz, Kaleigh Benson and Macao Jackson each drove in one run.
Sophomore Sarah Gardipe (0-1) started at pitcher for Ronan. She struck out three and walked one.

Track: Ronan boys finish second at Bigfork Invitational
The Ronan boys track and field team scored 80 points Saturday at the Bigfork Invitational, finishing second in the team standings behind the host Vikings (124.5). The Arlee boys finished ninth with 12 points.
Whitefish claimed the girls’ top spot with a whopping 165 points. The Ronan girls finished sixth with 26 points, while the Arlee girls were eighth with 23 points.
The Scarlets finished fourth in both the 400 and 1,600 relays, while the Warriors were third in the 1,600 relay.
Seeley-Swan’s Klaire Kovatc won the girls discus with a throw of 159-3 — second best in state history.
Michael Irvine of Ronan took first in both the 800 and the 1,600.
