Brander has big day at Frenchtown Invitational
Mission Senior Sydney Brander won the triple-jump, placed second in the long jump and posted season-best times for top-7 finishes in the girls 100 meters and 200 meters Saturday at the 17-team Frenchtown Invitational.
Brander finished fifth in the 200 and seventh in the 100 to lead the Lady Bulldogs to a 10th-place finish in the team standings.
Lake County teams from Mission, Ronan and Polson all competed at the event. The Ronan girls finished 12th in the team standings and Polson was 14th.
Lindsey Brooks of Ronan finished fourth in the high jump with a mark of 4-08, while teammate Leina Ulutoa finished second in the triple jump.
Polson teammates Lucy Violett and Taleah Hernandez tied for sixth in the pole vault with a mark of 6-06.
Beaverhead County scored 93 points to top the girls’ teams standings.
Ronan was the top local team in the boys’ team standings. The Chiefs scored 44 points to finish sixth. Hamilton was the top boys team with 65.5 points. Mission finished 10th and Polson was 15th.
Mission’s Layne Spidel set personal records with a fourth-place finish in the 200 meters and a second in the 400 meters.
Ronan’s Michael Irvine finished second in the 800 meters and fourth in the 1,600 meters. Teammate Brant Heiner was 4 seconds back for a fifth-place finish in the 1,600. Heiner took second in the 3,200 with a time of 9:59.61.
Ronan’s Daniel Kelsch finished second in the javelin with a throw of 153-05. Jonathan Perez of Polson was third at 144-00.
And Ronan teammates Girma Detwiler (41-00.00PR) and Zarec Couture (39-03.50PR) finished 3-4 in the triple jump.
