Softball Roundup: Bulldogs too much for Maidens
RONAN — A pair of Mission Valley softball programs clashed April 6, when Mission-Arlee-Charlo traveled to Ronan and walked away with a 16-3 nonconference victory over the Maidens.
Sophomore Rheid Crawford went 4 for 5 from the plate and drove in six runs for the Lady Bulldogs. She smacked three doubles and a home run.
M-A-C pitcher Kooper Page went seven innings and struck out eight. She also drove in three runs.
Maidens starter Macao Jackson (0-1) helped her own cause with a pair of home runs to deep center. On the mound, she recorded five strikeouts, but gave up nine hits in five innings. The Maidens also committed five errors.
M-A-C opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the first inning. The Maidens got one run back in the bottom of the inning on Jackson’s first homer, but the Lady Bulldogs pulled away in the fourth with a two-run single by Hayleigh Smith and a two-run double by Cooper that pushed the lead to 9-2.
Ashlie Welker went 2 for 3 from the plate for Ronan (0-2).
With the win, Page moved to 4-0, and the Lady Bulldogs improved to 5-0.

At the UM Griz Softball Field in Missoula on April 7, the Maidens’ field woes continued as they committed six errors in a loss to the Lady Blue Devils (1-0).
As the two-hour time limit was winding down during the bottom of the fifth, Ronan mounted a rally with three runs, then loaded the bases with only one out. But time was called and the score reverted to that of the preceding inning.
Macao Jackson struck out four in three innings on the mound for the Maidens (0-3).
Ashley Welker went 2 for 3 and drove in a run.

Jerny Crawford hit a solo home run in the fifth inning, her third homer of the season, and Liev Smith held visiting Thompson Falls (1-1) to one hit for her second win Thursday. Smith struck out eight and walked one batter over seven innings to improve to 2-0.
M-A-C managed four runs on just three hits. Izzy Evans and Bennan Andersen also singled for the Lady Bulldogs (6-0).

The Lady Bulldogs suffered their first loss of the season Friday on the road at unbeaten Florence (4-0).
Kooper Page got the start for M-A-C and struck out three to go with three walks.
The Falcons put the game away with a three-run fourth, followed by four runs in the fifth.
Florence pitcher Kylie Kovatch struck out 11 over seven innings.
Jerny Crawford went 2 for 3 with a double, and RBI and two runs scored for M-A-C (6-1). Liev Smith and Rheid Crawford also doubled.
The Lady Bulldogs host Libby on Thursday (April 15).

At Frenchtown on Saturday night, the visiting Maidens held their own against one of the top teams in western Montana, but couldn’t push a run across.
Ronan (0-4) pushed seven runners into scoring position under the lights, but the rally stalled each time.
Kiara Sherman had the lone extra-base hit for Ronan with a two-out double in the top of the fourth.
Macao Jackson struck out five over six innings and went 1 for 3 from the plate.
Haylie Webster had a pair of hits for the Maidens, who played error-free defense all night.
Kendra Jacobs struck out nine for the Lady Broncs (3-1).
Ronan hosts Columbia Falls on Thursday (April 15).
