Softball Roundup: Mission Valley teams hitting on all cylinders

It was a week of heavy hitting and stingy defense for Mission Valley softball teams.

Mission-Arlee-Charlo went 3-0 and outscored their opponents 63-0.

Polson got things rolling again after a lengthy layoff with a 12-0 win at Libby on Saturday.

And Ronan went 2-1 with a convincing 18-5 win over Corvallis, preceded by a nail-biter 10-9 win against Columbia Falls on Thursday and a tough 9-8 loss to Libby on Tuesday (April 13).

Polson 12, Libby 0

At Libby, the Lady Pirates were itching to get back in the swing of things against live competition after a 16-day layoff due to a cancellation.

Polson starter Katelyne Druyvestein (4-0) struck out 10 and allowed one hit to earn the win over the Lady Loggers (3-4).

The Lady Pirates had seven extra-base hits. McKenna Hanson went 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles and drove in five runs for Polson.

Leadoff hitter Josie Caye opened the game with a triple deep to right-center. Lexy Orien had three singles.

The Lady Pirates (4-0) were set to face the Maidens in Ronan on Tuesday after the Leader went to press. They travel to Columbia Falls on Friday before hosting Browning on Saturday.

Kooper Page struck out 10 and allowed two hits in a complete-game shutout against Loyola on Saturday. She threw pitches.

The Bulldogs scored 14 runs on nine hits. Liev Smith went 2 for 2 with two walks, two doubles and an RBI.

Eight M-A-C players drove in at least one, led by Izzy Evans and Brennan Anderson with two each.

Ronan 18, Corvallis 5

Macao Jackson struck out 10 over five innings and drove in six runs in a lopsided win at Corvallis (2-2) on Saturday.

After tying the game at 4-4 in the top of the third, the Maidens (2-5) scored four in the fourth and five each in the sixth and seventh to put the game away.

Ronan got home runs from Jackson and Kaleigh Benson to go with a pair of dingers from Kiara Sherman, who also drove in six runs.

Kooper Page went 6 for 6 with a pair of doubles and drove in six runs, and Lizzy Evans had a home run and three RBIs as the Bulldogs (8-1) crushed Troy (1-6) on the road Friday.

Liev Smith got the start and the win to improve to 3-0. She also drove in four runs.

Jerny Crawford stole two bases, scored four runs and drove in two.

Smith struck out three in two scoreless innings, and Evans struck out six in the final three innings to complete the shutout.

Ally Mock and Sherman hit back-to-back singles off WildKats reliever Abbey Underdahl in the bottom of the seventh, and Haylie Webster stroked a single to plate courtesy runner Tyariah Morigeau for the walk-off win in a crucial conference matchup at home Thursday.

The WildKats (4-4) sent their entire lineup to the plate in the top half of the second and scored six runs. The Maidens (1-5) answered with seven in the fourth to tie the game at 9-9.

Macao Jackson struck out six to earn the win, her first of the season. Alyssa Mock went 2 for 4 and drove in three runs.

Jerny Crawford went 4 for 4 with a home run and three doubles and Kooper Page pitched a shutout at Libby on Thursday.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 12-0 lead after three innings.

Crawford drove in six runs. Liev Smith went 3 for 4 with three RBIs. Rheid Crawford also hit a home run, a solo shot, and scored twice.

The Maidens opened the week with a tough loss against Libby (3-2) that dropped their record to 0-5 at the time.

Macao Jackson took the loss despite striking out 10 and driving in two runs on a 2-for-4 day at the plate.

Ronan scored a run in the top of the six to pull ahead 8-5, but the Lady Loggers managed two runs in the bottom of the sixth and two more in the seventh for the walk-off victory.

Alyssa Mock went 2 for 4 with a home run and drove in two runs.
