Skate park celebration set for Saturday

Supporters of the Seventh Avenue skate park in Polson are celebrating its recent expansion with a 2021 Polson Skatejam expansion grand opening from noon to dusk Saturday.

The event includes live music and skating contests. All ages are welcome.

The park is part of the Polson sports complex along Seventh Avenue on the way to Kerr Dam Road.

James Thane reading at library

Local author James Thane will present “From Glacier to Blue Deer to Poisonville & Lakeside,” a look at some of the most important and entertaining crime novels set in Montana, at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5 at the North Lake County Public Library. Thane is a mystery writer himself and his latest novel, “Crossroads,” is set in Kalispell.

Summer reading program features adorable critters

The North Lake County Public Library's summer reading program, Tails and Tales, continues with a visit from Karen Duty of Hellroaring Kennels and the Mission Valley Animal Shelter starting at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 5 at Sacajawea Park across from the library. There will be adorable puppies and kittens to cuddle while you learn about how to properly care for a pet. The library will be presenting the animal shelter with supplies collected this summer. Supplies will be accepted Thursday. Visit the library’s website or call for a list of things they need.

Cherry sales support Boys and Girls Club

The Boys and Girls Club of the Flathead Reservation and Lake County is selling 20-pound lugs of Finley Point cherries for $30, with 100% of proceeds going to the club.

The cherries are available at the Ronan club facility, 62579 U.S. Highway 93.

Cherries soon will be available for purchase in smaller quantities. Call 406-676-5437 for more information.

Bannack String Band to play at Big Arm

The Bannack String Band will be performing in the school yard of the historic Big Arm School starting at 6 p.m. Saturday. Bring your lawn chairs and be prepared to learn about local history through music. The musicians have played together for over 30 years and hail from rural communities in Montana, Wyoming and Idaho. Food Service open house at Ronan Middle School

The Food Service Department for Ronan School District No. 30 will host an open house from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5. in the northwest corner of the middle school at the lunch pickup building. The open house is to honor a grant received from Montana No Kids Hungry to assist with the delivery of summer meals for the Ronan and Pablo communities. Meals and treats will be served. St. Joseph Medical Center will be presenting a check to the program to help with the purchase of a bus to aid in the delivery of meals during their summer feeding program.

Vacation Bible School cancelled

Mission Valley United Methodist Church at Post Creek has cancelled its annual Vacation Bible School this year due to COVID. They hope to hold this popular event again in 2022.

Home educators meeting in Polson

Area home educators will meet at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 6 at Boettcher Park in Polson for an informal gathering of parents/caregivers who are currently homeschooling or are considering homeschool. Children also are welcome.

The event will be co-hosted by Leah Clairmont and Jenn Groves, who have a cumulative 25 years of homeschool experience ranging from preschool to high school.

Organizers hope to build a support group of diverse homeschoolers, with a variety of reasons, methods and ideologies.
