Jackson to address Flathead Lakers
NBA Hall of Fame coach Phil Jackson will be the keynote speaker at the Flathead Lakers’ annual meeting Tuesday, Aug. 17 in Polson.
The nonprofit conservation organization, established in 1958, works “to protect clean water, healthy ecosystems and a lasting quality of life in the Flathead watershed.”
Topics include updates on Lakers’ projects and the state of the lake. The meeting begins with a social hour at 6 p.m. at the Salish Building outdoor plaza next to the Flathead Lakers offices at 110 Main St.

50th Sandpiper festival coming to Courthouse
The 50th annual Sandpiper Lake County Art Festival takes place on the Polson Courthouse lawn from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in conjunction with the “Cruisin’ by the Bay” car show.
There will be fine art originals in all media, jewelry, handmade furniture, birdhouses, hand-sewn items, stained glass, rosemaling, pottery, candles and sculpture and many other interesting and unique items.
In addition to the many returning artists, there will be new artists displaying in this popular juried event.

Huckleberry Festival Saturday at Swan Lake
The 40th annual Swan Lake Huckleberry Festival is set for Saturday at the Swan Lake Day Park near mile marker 72 on State Highway 83.
Morning activities include a pancake breakfast starting at 8 a.m., a huckleberry baking contest at 11 a.m. and a huckleberry baked goods sale. Contest entries must be huckleberry-based with a minimum of three servings provided. Entries will be accepted Saturday morning starting at 10:30 am.
Planned afternoon activities include a silent auction and raffles of donated items, including gift certificates and products from area restaurants and merchants.
The festival will also feature an arts and crafts fair with more than 50 vendors offering a wide array of handicrafts, gifts, Montana-made products, food and country-made delicacies. The Ashley Creek Ramblers featuring Roy Wilhelm will play from 11:30 a.m. until 3:30 pm.
Festival proceeds will be used to fund maintenance of the Swan Lake Community Center.
Flathead Monster presentation at the library
Karen Dunwell from the Polson Flathead Lake Museum will present “Busting the Monster Myth: Flathead Monster Reports and Sightings” at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug.19 at 5:30 p.m. in the library’s large meeting room.
Dunwell will discuss some of the sightings and share the history of the Flathead Monster. The programs will have limited attendance, so come early for a seat. Chairs will be distanced apart. Masks are always welcome, but not required.
Ice cream event caps reading program
The North Lake County Public Library’s summer reading program wraps up this week with the annual ice cream social starting at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 12 across from the library at Sacajawea Park.
Wilcoxson’s ice cream will be served, and dozens of prizes will be awarded in a drawing of tickets readers earned over the summer. Grand prize is a half-day fishing trip for four from Hooked on Montana.
Family Table offering taco meal
Family Table will be serving free tacos from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Wander Inn, at the corner of Seventh Avenue West and First Street West in Polson. Organizers plan to continue providing a meal every Friday from 5 to 7 pm.
