Mariners land postseason honors

The Mission Valley Mariners, who were the second seed out of the West and went 1-2 at the State A tournament at Havre to finish 36-19, placed four players among the postseason list sponsored by Universal Athletic.
Shortstop Xavier Fisher received all-state recognition for his glove as well as his bat. He led the team in batting average from the leadoff slot, extra base doubles with 19 as well as free trips to the base path with over five dozen walks or bean balls. This was the second all-state nod for Fisher, an all-state pick last season as well.
Named to the all-conference team is Dawson DuMont, who led the team in RBIs and sacrifice flies while tying for the team lead in home runs. This was the second postseason accolade for DuMont, an all-conference selection last season as well.
Joining the preceding duo on the all-conference list is Alex Muzquiz, who led the team in hits, triples and stolen bases. He also tied for the team lead in home runs. This was the second all-conference nod for Muzquiz, an honorable mention last season.
Acknowledged as an honorable mention was versatile Espn Fisher, who helped anchor the defense behind the plate. Espn was second on the team in doubles, sacrifice flies and walks.
All four players contributed innings from the mound in either starting roles or in relief, while at the plate each racked up at least 50 RBIs. The quartet combined for 174 singles and 89 extra-base hits over the course of the season.
