The candidate filing period for school, county, state and special purpose positions up for election in 2022 is on the horizon, and in some cases already underway.

The filing period for special purpose districts — including positions related to fire departments and water and sewer districts — began Dec. 9 and runs through March 24.

The filing period for school districts began Dec. 9 and runs through March 24. Interested candidates should contact school clerks for a list of open positions.

Candidates for Lake County positions must file between Jan. 13 and March 14. Positions on the ballot this year include county attorney, sheriff, justice of the peace, clerk and recorder and superintendent of schools. Ward 2 County Commissioner Steve Stanley’s seat also is on the ballot. Stanley was appointed to replace retired Commissioner Dave Stipe in July.

Candidates for school district positions must file with school clerks. Those seeking special purpose or county positions should file with the Lake County Election Office in Room 121 of the Lake County Courthouse.

Three Montana House of Representative seats also are on the ballot this year. They are currently held by Linda Reksten (District 12), Joe Read (District 93) and Mark Noland (District 10). The filing period for those seats runs Jan. 13 to March 14, and candidates must file with the Montana Secretary of State’s Office.
