Class A/B swimmers to converge in Polson for state meet
Some of Montana’s best high school swimmers are set to take the dive into state competition Saturday, March 6 at Mission Valley Aquatic and Fitness in Polson.
The newly founded Polson Pirates team has a good shot at claiming the program’s first state tournament hardware at its home pool.
The Class A/B meet also will include West teams Bigfork, Columbia Falls and Whitefish. The eastern side of the state will be represented by Billings Central, Hardin, East Helena and Havre.
Competition begins at 10 a.m. and continues throughout the day. COVID-19 protocols will be in effect and spectators will be required to wear masks at all times.
The meet is not open to the general public. Each swimmer will be allotted two tickets to be purchased for $10 at each school.
The event will be live-streamed over the NFHS Network for those who cannot attend.
Polson senior Mason Sloan has been on a tear this season for the Pirates. As of Feb. 9, Sloan held the best time for the A/B classification in five events: the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley. Sloan also holds the second-fastest time in the 100 backstroke and the fourth-best time in the 100 butterfly.
Fellow Pirate Trey Wymann, a junior, also recorded a pair of top 10 times this season. He’s got the No. 6 time in the 100 backstroke and the 10th-best time in the 100 butterfly.
Also competing for Polson this season are senior Sean Stewart, sophomores Aspen McKee and Hope Morrison, and freshmen Sami Dolberry, Isabelle Seeley and Shanoah Losieben.
