Interest in developing ski area
Jan. 6, 1949 Flathead Courier
The development of a ski and winter sports area for Polson is seen as a distinct possibility as enthusiasm began snowballing this week.
A study of snow surveys taken in the Hell Roaring Pass area in the Mission range east of Polson shows that there is ample snow every year to ensure good skiing. During the past eight years there has been an average snowfall of 11 feet per year. The Hell Roaring area has interesting possibilities, local skiers say.
It is about 15 miles by road and trail to the proposed ski area, and a road would need to be built up the pass from the East Shore Road.

Polson youngsters will soon have a new location to indulge in an old sport, ice skating, due to the combined action of Bob Ellenwood and the City Commission. The rink will be located near the edge of town on the Dam Road just southwest of the ranch and almost across the road from Dr. Frazer’s office. Hopefully, the ice can be ready before the weekend.
