Mariners take 3 of 4 against Mavericks
The Mission Valley Mariners A squad won three of four games against the Missoula Mavs A team last week. After splitting a doubleheader in Missoula on June 30, the Mariners swept a home doubleheader Saturday.
The Mariners are 10-4 in conference play and trail only Glacier (10-2) in the standings.
They were set to host a doubleheader against the Bitterroot Bucs on Wednesday night after the Leader went to press. They’ll also play several games at the John Harp Memorial Tournament in Kalispell, which begins Friday.
The state tournament is scheduled for July 28 to Aug. 1 in Havre.
Mariners 12, Mavs 2
In the nightcap at home Saturday, Dylan Davis hit a two-run homer in the first inning, and Alex Muzquiz followed with another two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth that propelled the Mariners to a 10-run win.
The Mavs loaded the bases with no outs in the fifth, but reliever Espn Fisher struck out two and induced a flyout to snuff the threat. In the bottom half of the fifth, the Mariners ran through their entire lineup and scored six in the fifth to end the game on the 10-run rule.
