Ronan’s Pioneer Days offers something for everyone
Ronan’s Pioneer Days is ready to roll this weekend, with enough activities to cover the fairgrounds and spill out across the entire town.
The kids start the whole thing off with the Kids’ Fishing Derby at Ronan City Park from 8 a.m. to noon Friday. The Pioneer Days Scramble golf tournament kicks off at 10 a.m. Friday at the Mission Mountain Golf Club. A happy hour from 5 to 7 p.m. will warm up the crowd for the Friday night open “Bulls & Broncs” competition, with saddle bronc, ranch bronc, bull riding and steer riding competitions, and a Calcutta auction for added fun. Street dances outside local establishments will bring live music to the streets from 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
Saturday begins with the 3-on-3 “JAM”boree, one of the largest 3-on-3 basketball tourneys in Montana, and the 40th annual Mission Mountain Classic 5k and 10k run at Glacier Bank. A coed softball tournament begins at 9 a.m., and a free classic car show runs from 10 am. to 3 p.m., also at Glacier Bank.
Rodeo fills the afternoon, starting at noon with the “Kiddie Slicker” Rodeo (sign-ups at 11 a.m.), and open rodeo at 7:30 p.m. In a town that loves its street dances, they will again be boot, scoot boogying from 9 to 1:30.
No rest for the weary, as Sunday starts with church services throughout town, and a 10 a.m volleyball tournament at Ronan City Park starting with signups at 9 a.m. The Big Parade begins at 12:30 p.m.
Rodeo action continues at 3 p.m. Sunday with open rodeo and the wild buffalo ride.
