Polson woman dies after being struck by car
A Polson woman died at a local hospital Thursday after being struck by a car near St. Ignatius.
The incident occurred just after 3 p.m. at 74728 U.S. Highway 93, between Post Creek and St. Ignatius, according to a report from Montana Highway Patrol.
Shirley Crawford Moody, 85, was a passenger in a 2021 Subaru Ascent that was being driven by an 86-year-old Polson man. After the driver pulled over near Lemery Road, the passenger exited the vehicle to switch seats with the driver, who failed to put the vehicle into park. The driver then pressed the accelerator instead of the brake pedal and the car reversed in a circular path, striking the passenger.
Moody was taken to St. Luke Community Healthcare in Ronan, where she later died.
Montana Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
