The candidate filing period for municipal positions on the Nov. 2 ballot closes at 5 p.m. Monday, June 21.

Polson has three city commission seats and the mayor’s position on the ballot.

Jen Ruggless is the only candidate to file so far in Ward 1, where Commissioner Lou Marchello’s term is expiring. David Coffman and Laura Dever have declared for a vacant Ward 2 seat. The Commission is in the process of selecting someone to serve Ward 2 through Dec. 31 after Patricia Corrigan-Ekness resigned last month. In Ward 3, Commissioner Brodie Moll has filed for re-election, with no challengers as of Monday.

No one has filed to run for the position of mayor, currently held by Paul Briney.

Ronan also has three positions up for election on its City Council, along with the positions of mayor and city judge. As of Monday, Bob Sager had filed for the mayor’s seat, currently held by Kim Aipperspach, but no other candidate filings had been received for Ronan. Randy Melton is Ronan’s current judge.

Council terms are expiring for Marilynn Tanner in Ward 1, Chris Adler in Ward 2 and Marlene Melton in Ward 3.

There are two openings for city commissioner in St. Ignatius, as well as elections for mayor and city judge.

Steve McCollum has filed to retain his position as mayor for another four-year term. He had no challengers as of Monday. Current Commissioners Chris Heffern and Daniel Thompson also have filed for re-election to their at-large seats. Sharon Richardson is the current city judge in St. Ignatius.

Anyone who wishes to file should contact the Lake County Election Department (County Courthouse first floor) at 406-883-7268. The office is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Charlo reschedules election for three trustee seats

At May’s regular monthly Charlo School Board meeting, trustees approved a new election for three positions due to a discrepancy between an earlier election resolution and trustee advertisement. The original election set for May was cancelled after consultation with the Office of Public Instruction, the Montana School Boards Association, the Lake County Elections Office and the Lake County Attorney.

The trustee election will now be held Sept. 14. There is one position opening for the Charlo High School District for a resident of the Dixon School District. There are two additional positions open for interested residents of the Charlo School District.

Declaration of Intent and Oath of Candidacy forms are due by 4 p.m. Aug. 4. Forms are available at the district office or you can request that a form be mailed to you. If you have any questions please call Sara Vaughan at 644-2206 ext 303.
