Polson tennis hosts three teams to kick off season

Both the Polson boys and girls tennis teams went 1-2 over the weekend in home matches against Hamilton and Libby on Friday, and Corvallis on Saturday.
The Lady Pirates’ most dominant match was a 6-1 win against Hamilton on Friday, when Berkley Ellis, Sierra Lundeen and Elizabeth Tolley all won singles matches. Lundeen’s came with an 11-9 third set. The girls also swept their doubles matches against Hamliton.
Also Friday, the girls fell 4-3 to Libby, with the Lady Loggers taking four singles matches and the Lady Pirates sweeping a trio of doubles matches.
The Polson boys lost 4-3 to Hamilton. Torrin Ellis and Brock Henrickson each won singles matches, while the duo of Michael Smith and Owen McElwee took a doubles match.
The Pirates also managed a 4-3 win over Libby on Friday. Trent Wilson notched a singles victory against the Loggers, while Colter Wilson teamed up with Chris Lake for a doubles victory.
Head coach Bob Hislop said Friday that his team was ready to compete again after missing last season due to COVID-19.
“They’re very eager,” Hislop said. “Maybe a bit too eager, in fact. I think some of them are too amped up and maybe not playing their best today. It’s just great to be back on the court, though.”
Both teams fell to Corvallis by a score of 5-2 on Saturday.
Qia Harlan/Berkley Ellis got a win in girls doubles, and Katelyn Smith won her singles match. Trent Wilson won in singles and Michael Smith/Torrin Ellis were winners in doubles for the boys.
