Lady Pirates heating up as weather warms
The Polson softball team continued to dominate opponents with a trio of blowout wins last week as the regular season winds down.
The Lady Pirates (16-1-1) outscored their opponents 49-4 in three games at the Butte Invitational over the weekend. They opened the tournament with a 16-0 win over Hamilton on Friday, followed by a 23-4 victory over Corvallis later that day. They then blanked Stevensville 10-0 Saturday before returning home. A fourth game, scheduled against Dillon, was cancelled due to injuries depleting Dillon’s roster.
Polson amassed 14 extra-base hits over the course of the three games, a half dozen of those home runs. Lexy Orien hit three homers, including two against Stevensville off different pitchers. Kobbey Smith, SaVanna Carpentier and Turquoise Pierre each launched homers on Friday. Pierre also tripled against Stevensville on Saturday.
Pitcher Katelyne Druyvestein topped 100 strikeouts on the season during the Hamilton contest. She’s averaging almost 1.5 strikeouts per inning.
Polson enters the final stretch of their regular schedule with a three-game conference homestand as they host Ronan on Tuesday, Columbia Falls on Thursday and Libby for Senior Night on Saturday. Libby and Columbia Falls will join Polson at the state tournament in Butte next weekend.
Orien has 10 home runs for the season, moving her into second place on the Lady Pirate school record list for home runs in a single season behind 11 hit by Sarah Newton in 2007.
