Ash Sunday
May 22, 1980 Flathead Courier
Mount St. Helens blew her top Sunday — some 600 feet of it — and a good share of it fell on Polson and most Montana communities about 10 hours later.
Local residents enjoying a brilliant, sunshiny day most of Sunday noticed the slowly but steadily darkening gray sky tones developing in the west in the afternoon.
Those who hadn’t been listening to TV and radio during the day were unaware of the volcanic blast some 500 miles to the west.
First commencement
May 23, 1974 Flathead Courier
Polson High School’s 1974 graduating class will be the first class to receive their diplomas in the new high school auditorium when baccalaureate and commencement exercises will be combined Sunday.
Holding the highest scholastic honors in the class of 101 graduates are valedictorian Jean Michele Wolfe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl H. Wolfe, and salutatorian Amy Nelson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey (Toby) Nelson.

Four Ronan High School wrestlers are taking off next weekend on the trip of a lifetime.
Isaiah Ashley, Dusty Brown, Justin Fisher and Shannon Johnson have been invited to wrestle June 6-18 in New Zealand.
The boys take off next Friday for Sidney, and they leave June 6 for New Zealand. They’ll wrestle eight times in five cities. Most of their opponents will be adult wrestlers.
